Monique Semein, MD

Oncologist · Medical Author · Founder

“Every patient deserves not only the best possible treatment, but also the best possible understanding of that treatment.”

Dr. Monique Semein has devoted her professional life to the care of individuals and families whose lives have been touched by cancer. Throughout her career as a medical oncologist, she has cared for patients across every stage of the cancer journey — from the uncertainty of diagnosis, through treatment and survivorship, and, when necessary, through compassionate end-of-life care.

Her approach to oncology has always been grounded in a simple but profound belief: exceptional cancer care extends beyond the prescription of treatments. It requires listening deeply, communicating honestly, and helping patients understand not only what is happening medically, but also why each recommendation matters. She believes that knowledge, when shared with compassion, empowers patients to become active partners in their care and restores a sense of confidence during times of uncertainty.

Over the years, Dr. Semein recognized a recurring need among her patients. Even after thoughtful discussions in the clinic, medical office, and hospital, many individuals and families were left overwhelmed by the complexity of modern oncology. New questions often arose after they returned home, and reliable, understandable educational resources were difficult to find. This observation inspired her to envision a different kind of patient education — one that would extend beyond the examination room and continue supporting patients and their loved ones throughout their journey.

What began as the concept for a single educational guide soon evolved into An Essential Guide through Cancer: From an Oncologist’s Perspective — a comprehensive series dedicated to the most common cancers. Each volume is carefully designed to combine current medical evidence, evolving standards of care, and compassionate communication into resources that patients and families can revisit whenever questions arise.

Recognizing that exceptional education requires both scientific rigor and exceptional communication, Dr. Semein invited her longtime friend and colleague, Rev. Windi Braden, RN (Ret.), to join her in this work. Together they are creating a series that brings clinical expertise together with compassionate guidance, helping readers navigate the medical, emotional, and human dimensions of cancer with greater understanding and confidence.

Dr. Semein remains deeply committed to lifelong learning and to the continual advancement of oncology. As research, precision medicine, immunotherapy, targeted therapies, artificial intelligence, and supportive care continue to transform the field, she is committed to ensuring that this series evolves alongside the science, providing readers with information that is both current and thoughtfully presented.

“Every patient deserves to be treated with scientific excellence, unwavering honesty, deep respect, and genuine compassion. Medicine is not only about treating disease — it is about caring for the person who lives with it.”

With respect, compassion, and hope,

Rev. Windi Braden, RN (Ret.)

Co-Author · Spiritual Advisor · Life Coach · Health Sciences Educator

Intuitive Counsel · Guided Imagery · Body Magic Touch®

“Knowledge becomes healing when it is offered with compassion, received with trust, and integrated with wisdom.”

For more than four decades, Rev. Windi Braden has devoted her life to helping individuals and families navigate some of life’s most profound transitions with compassion, wisdom, and hope. Her professional journey has been shaped by a unique integration of nursing, health sciences education, spiritual care, and intuitive guidance — offering care to the whole person rather than focusing solely on disease.

As a retired registered nurse, licensed minister, health sciences educator, and lifelong student of both science and the healing arts, Windi believes that information has the greatest power when it is communicated with kindness and received in a way that supports understanding rather than fear. Throughout her career, she has helped countless individuals make informed decisions by translating complex health information into language that is approachable, reassuring, and deeply human.

Her work extends beyond traditional health education. As a Spiritual Advisor, Life Coach, and provider of Intuitive Counsel, Guided Imagery, and Body Magic Touch®, Windi has dedicated her life to creating safe and compassionate spaces where individuals feel deeply heard, respected, and empowered. Her approach recognizes that every person carries not only a physical story, but also emotional, relational, and spiritual experiences that deserve equal care and attention.

The guiding philosophy of her life’s work is rooted in Sacred Wisdom Remembered® — the belief that within every individual resides an innate wisdom, resilience, and capacity for healing that can be gently awakened through knowledge, presence, compassion, and conscious awareness. Rather than seeing healing as something imposed from outside, Windi views it as a process of remembering the extraordinary intelligence already present within each person and supporting that wisdom with informed choices and compassionate care.

Her contribution to this series reflects this philosophy. Working alongside Dr. Monique Semein, Windi has thoughtfully translated complex oncology concepts into language that patients and families can absorb during one of life’s most challenging seasons. Every page has been written with careful attention to preserving scientific integrity while reducing unnecessary fear, honoring each reader’s dignity, and creating space for understanding, reflection, and hope.

Throughout this series, her voice serves as a gentle companion — offering reassurance without minimizing reality, encouragement without false promises, and compassionate guidance that acknowledges both the strength and vulnerability present within every cancer journey.

“I have always believed that true healing begins the moment a person feels seen, heard, and understood. My hope is that these pages offer not only trustworthy information, but also a quiet place to pause, breathe, gather your strength, and remember that even in life’s most uncertain moments, you do not walk this path alone.”

Our Shared Purpose

Although our professional journeys began in different places, they meet in a common belief:

The highest standard of cancer care is strengthened when scientific excellence is joined with compassionate communication.

Together, we have created this series to bridge the space between the science of oncology and the lived experience of those navigating cancer. Every page has been thoughtfully developed to offer evidence-informed guidance while honoring the emotional, relational, and deeply personal realities of a cancer diagnosis.

It is our sincere hope that these books become more than educational resources. May they serve as trusted companions, offering understanding when questions arise, reassurance when uncertainty feels overwhelming, and hope to accompany every reader through each stage of the cancer journey.

Two voices. One shared calling.
To educate with integrity.
To communicate with compassion.
To walk beside those navigating cancer with knowledge, hope, and humanity.

With compassion, hope, and enduring respect,
Monique Semein, MD & Rev. Windi Braden, RN (Ret.)
